CDW Members:
While cap-and-trade and health care reform are dominating the congressional landscape at the moment, we recognize that a small group of Democratic senators continue to meet in an effort to craft what they call a “compromise” on EFCA and what we know is really a Trojan Horse that will allow for the ultimate passage of legislation that will deny employees the right to a secret ballot election and burden small business owners with government mandated, binding interest arbitration.
New CDW Ad
In order to ensure that the dangers of EFCA are not allowed to be fade into the political background this summer, CDW has released a new ad, entitled “Poison,” which highlights the potential economic impact of card-check.
You can view this web ad by clicking here.
Recess Toolkit
CDW has again put together a recess toolkit, with talking points on the latest policy issues surrounding EFCA, sample op eds and LTEs, and sample grassroots material for contacting your federal legislators. Click here to access the toolkit: http://myprivateballot.com/toolkit/
Recess work periods are the best time for CDW members outside the Beltway to let Congress know that we all concerned about EFCA and watching how they vote and act on this crucial issue. Townhall meetings, district office hours, and even a local parade during the holiday week are all great opportunities to tell your Representative and Senators that EFCA is bad for employees and employers.
With regards to the Toolkit, it is worth noting that proponents of EFCA have been running print and web ads that focus on the binding interest arbitration provisions in EFCA. These ads attempt to make EFCA’s government appointed arbitrators, who will write binding labor contracts for your members, seem innocuous and commonplace. The reality is that EFCA’s arbitration provisions are as radical as card-check, and just as dangerous for employers and employees.
It is important that binding interest arbitration continue to be one of our talking points when discussing the ills of EFCA, and the Toolkit has talking points, LTEs and op eds to that effect.
And, let’s not forget to say “thank you” to those Members and Senators who are on the right side of those issues, especially those who are taking a position that may not very popular in their own party.
Steering Committee Meeting
Members of the CDW Steering Committee, keep an eye out for a planned meeting in mid-July. I’ll get back to everyone soon with date, time, location, and another excellent guest speaker to address the group.
Thanks for all of your hard work, and I hope everyone has an enjoyable 4th of July holiday.
